DR. MARY JOY GARCIA-DIA, DNP, RN, FAAN

Academic Research Coordinator

Dr. Mary Joy Garcia-Dia is the Program Director, Nursing Informatics, Information Technology Department at New York-Presbyterian. In this position, she provides project management oversight with clinical systems implementation and strategic programs impacting the electronic health record (EHR) enterprise-wide. She covers seven hospitals, two of which are affiliated with Weill Cornell and Columbia as well as three Regional Medical Centers in the boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn, and Hudson Valley. Prior to this role, Garcia-Dia’s clinical background as a critical care nurse forged her informatics experience in leading CPOE implementation at major academic medical centers and system integration between ancillary systems, physiologic monitors and mobile devices. She earned her Nursing Informatics Master’s Degree from New York University and holds a Doctorate in Nursing Practice degree from Case Western Reserve University. Her research interest is focused on global health particularly the use of mobile technology, resilience, and structural empowerment. She is the President-elect of the Philippine Nurses Association of America, Chair of the Kalusugan Coalition and a member of the National Advisory Committee for Research on Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Health funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (U54MD000538).

Patient Advocate Leader

Liza, who served as an Early Childhood Education teacher in the Philippines for 15 years, grew up in Taytay, Rizal. She finished her Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Commerce from San Sebastián College, Manila, and took her Graduate Studies from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. She inherited her passion to excel in every task given to her from her late father, who would always remind her that, “You can’t work with mediocrity… you have to put your heart into it and excel.” She’s an active member of Elmhurst Baptist Church in Queens, NY, and a volunteer community worker who loves incorporating Godly teachings to help people know that they were created for a purpose. Thus, became an advocate in improving the health and quality of life of her fellow Filipinos today and for the generations to come.
